Entering Sukhumvit Soi 11 you will notice one of the crowded, packed outdoor bar with normally expats. Cheap Charlie is one of the oldest bars in Soi 11 Bangkok and is well known for its low cost drinks. Carrying just few 100 baht notes and don’t know where to spend your night, there is no better place than heading straight to Cheap Charlie for its buzzing atmosphere, plenty of expats and the most important, off course cheap alcohol.
Cheap Charlie was formed three decades back and since then nothing much has changed, it still measure the same size at same place with same owner and from last three decades the shop has been selling alcohol at give-away price. The thing that has been changing every year is the theme of the bar. Expats from all around the world come and share experience with the owner while giving the bar different kind of antiques which are placed or decorated near the bar.
The bar is very small and doesn’t have any indoor seating instead it has few outdoor seats for passing by people who can grab couple of beers and hang around for all night. The seats are not any comfortable kinds instead are wooden material placed as a showpiece.
It also has few rules such as a strict message conveyed on the bathroom door saying no pooping in the toilet, so better make sure you come up clean to the bar, the bar also doesn’t allow any go -go girls in the bar, although there hardly any prostitutes seen instead it is normally filled with groups of expats sipping on their beer and enjoying the soft music which is open in the background. The volume is normally low making sure you can hear the person you are talking to without bending your face to their ears. Finally there is also a yellow line marked like a fence around the bar area, the line is not meant to be crossed and all customers are requested to stay within the yellow line while you are in Cheap Charlie.
