Does the Thai Media check their facts?
The world-renowned British rock singer David Bowie passed away on the 10th January 2016, after an 18 month fight with cancer.
As the world mourns the loss of this influential singer, Thairath the Thai Newspaper made a huge ‘cock up’ when covering the story.
The reporters for the newspaper mistook David Bowie for the American Rock singer – Jon Bon Jovi. The newspaper stated that Bowie was “the singer of the well-known hit ‘It’s My Life’ that many Thais know and love”.
The newspapers blunder has now been corrected, but it has left a controversy behind. Some readers find the newspapers error amusing and jest that it’s ‘typical’ for the Thai media to be useless at reporting. While other readers have not taken the mistake so lightly. In retaliation to the error many readers took to the newspapers Facebook to express their complaints.
— “Its my life you ass!! Does your house have YouTube or not? Better look at it!!”
— “Hey Admin, is that David Bon Jovi?”
Thairath’s mistake makes you wonder whether the newspaper researches their content or not. A quick Google search would have been enough for them to find any selection of Bowie’s musical and acting collection.
This is not the first mistake that the Thai media has made and it is surely not the last.
RIP David Bowie – ‘Ziggy Stardust’.
