Since opening Universal Tailors in 1985, owner Ronnie (Kuljit Singh) has built a well respected brand around his professionalism, dedication to the tailor’s art and quality of finished product. And that of his team of in-house tailors, who share Ronnie’s passion for crafting suits and garments that fit perfectly and look exceptional.

Forging and sustaining strong customer relations is also a key element at Universal Tailors, which comes in no small part from the fact that Ronnie – as owner – runs the operation himself. Each year, trips are made to Australia and New Zealand, the US and Canada, Europe and Singapore to present Universal Tailors’ latest collections.

In having their tailoring done, Universal Tailors customers can choose from a selection of suit fabrics that ranges from 100% wool fabric to luxury fabrics from Italian mills like Vitale Baberis Canonico and shirt fabrics ranging from 100% cotton of 60/1 ply to 120/2 ply in twill, oxford and poplin weaves.

Suits are made using high end horsehair interlining and canvassing and pure cotton German shoulder pads and come with Bemberg lining and horn buttons. All shirts are double stitched and come with real mother of pearl buttons.

The choice of suit styles available includes classic single-breasted (two or three button jacket) and double-breasted, while shirt styles range from the classic Italian forward points and English Broad collars to button downs, spread or cut away collars with long or short sleeves and classic barrel cuffs or French cuffs. Options like pockets, cuffs, placket fronts, pleated back and monogramming are fully customizable.

Universal Tailors customers can expect no less than three fittings during the tailoring process. The first of these is to record length and posture and to assign a particular tailor to the customer, who will then remain that customer’s tailor for future orders to ensure a consistent look and feel to his or her garments. The second fitting checks for drape, neck point and cuffs and is where previous alterations and amendments are refined. The final fitting is to ensure perfect satisfaction and to advise the customer on best suit and garment care.

Universal Tailors is open from 10 am to 9 pm Monday through Saturday and from 12 pm to 6 pm on Sunday. The www.universaltailor.com website also has an online shop in which suit and garment style and fabric etc can be selected.
