Thailand will take crystal methamphetamine off dangerous list of drugs. The statement was made by General Paiboon Koomchaya who also mentioned that Thailand is considering legalizing crystal meth, a highly addictive drug in Thailand widely known as Ya Ba. Thailand has 1.3 million drug addicts, the most in ASEAN.
Thailand is popular for its strict laws against drugs just as any other Asian country, but Thailand might go on a different direction to make things better for people. If you are caught using drugs in Thailand you could end up in prison or compulsory rehabilitation programs but most of the people return to their habit after the rehab program.
According to General Paiboon Koomchaya “The world has now surrendered to drugs, and has come to think of how to live with drugs” which is the reason why he considers that taking this drug off the dangerous drug list would be a better solution to deal with the issue of the drug use in Thailand. Koomchaya also mentioned that in case crystal meth becomes legalized its usage will be strictly controlled. The administration would need to create a strategy and framework on its distribution and sale.
