The Thai Ministry of Labor protects 39 professions for Thai nationals, among them are Architecture, Civil Engineering and other traditional professions. The law was drafted in 1999 and 2008 to control the activities of foreigners / immigrants.
The rule became an issue for MahaNakhon, the tallest building in Thailand because the designer who built this 315 meters building is a German national and is in breach of Thai Labor law.
Activist Srisuwan Janya, a lawyer by profession with a pro-nationalist idealogies has filed a petition and asked the authorities to investigate whether MahaNakhon team has breached Thai Laws. A police complaint was also filed against Ole Scheeren in 2010 when pro nationalist activists came to know that the contract was headed by a foreign architect.
