Roadside Commuter Shelter to be Renovated in Thailand

Highway Department plans to renovate roadside shelters in Thailand. According to Bangkok Post, 6,000 shelters needs to be re-done or renovated.

The team surveyed 22,239 shelters throughout Thailand out of which 4,000 needs renovation and 2,000 needs to be re-built. A huge percentage of the shelters that needs repair are outside Bangkok.

The authorities face a challenge as shelters are either stolen or damaged by thieves while some are damaged due to weather conditions.

The authority also plans to move some shelters to places near temples, public transport system and local communities where they could be easily accessed by people.

Total budget for the project is 200 million baht and work will commence in December and plans to end by 2018.
