Siam Square’s Lido Connect to officially open on 30 July 2019

Siam Square’s former Lido cinema is offically set to reopen as Lido Connect this July. Though the grand opening will take place on Jul 30, the new creative space will be in soft opening as early as Jul 13.

Since ceasing operations after 50 years in June 2018, the cinema has undergone a major refurbishment courtesy of record label Loveis Entertainment, and the Property Management of Chulalongkorn University (PMCU, which owns the land at Siam Square).

Though the new design is set to pay homage to the charming, old-school theater it replaces, it will function as a “co-cultural” space for live performances, temporary exhibitions, performing arts, fashion and technology showcases.

As reported by A Day, last Saturday (Jun 22) was an historic moment for the development, as it saw the installation of the new Lido Connect sign—proof that the project, originally slated to launch in May, is finally nearing completion.

Talking at a press conference back in Dec 18, assoc. prof. Wisanu Subsompon, Ph.D., vice president of PMCU, said: “Lido Connect is not founded to make the highest profit. With Loveis, we are able to create opportunities for music, performance and other aspects of cultural arts sustainable.”

True to their word, they have announced that applications are now open for “The Opportunity Space Project,” which will invite talented artists, musicians, filmmakers, dancer, photographers, fashion designers and more to exhibit in the new Lido Connect free of charge. Solo applicants can enter here, while groups should apply here.

Inside the refurbished building, you can expect to find a cinema plus two halls for talks and performances on the second floor, while the first floor will be reserved for The Opportunity Space Project, student projects and workshops. There will also be an outdoor stage for music and dance performances.

Stay tuned for further updates.
