Government Wants People to Soften Celebrations for X’mas, New Year

The regime requests people to soften the celebration for Christmas and New Year during the mourning period.

People celebrated Loy Krathong quietly with no fireworks or entertainment activities as the nation is still in the mourning period of 1 month.

The decision / recommendation from the government on Christmas and New Year’s came after people quietly celebrated Loy Krathong and dedicated the floating of Krathong (raft) in remembrance of The Late King. The government did not make any formal arrangement for this year’s Loy Krathong around the Grand Palace, people went about celebrating quietly in nearby khlongs and piers according to Bangkok Post.

According to Bangkok post, the committee members recommended not to stage Nang Nopphamat beauty contest and other events that involves usage of fireworks.

The committee member General Tanasak said “I believe every Thai has discretion and knows how to act appropriately during this time of mourning”.
