With more than 3,379 accidents in one of the worst New Year holiday periods the government decides to put an end to vans.
By July 1 the government plans to replace 6,431 vans with minibuses which are more safer for passengers.
In a desperate attempt to reduce the road fatalities which is second most after Libya in relation to population the Deputy Transport minister believes it to be safer for people and carry more passengers thereby lowering the operational cost.
Road fatalities in Thailand has increased year-on-year even after Government’s attempt to lower down the road accidents. Motorcycles are the major cause followed by vans and other vehicles.
The issue was given the top priority after a major accident in Chonburi killing 25 people.
