The Chao Phraya is a major river in Thailand, flowing through Bangkok into the gulf of Thailand. Most of the riverside attraction lies around it. Bangkok Chao Phraya carries a significant rich history and also most of the population of Thailand is in capital city.

Bangkok has lot of famous attractions and most of them are located along the river banks. Bangkok riverside scenic areas provide with luxury five star hotels, condominiums, corporate buildings and historical temples and places.

Famous Attractions along Chao Phraya River

Chao Phraya River is home to many famous temples and there are plenty of them to go through alongside the banks.

Wat Phra Kaew

Temple of Emerald Buddha is a very famous Buddhist temple. Wat Phra Kaew is famous for meditating position of Buddha image. The temple is very well engraved and designed taking care of smallest of thing while decorating it. It is open from 8:30 am to 3:30 pm. Also avoid short pants and skirts, its respectful if you dress appropriately.

Wat Arun

Wat Arun or Temple of Dawn is among the best known Buddhist Temple of Thailand’s landmarks.  Its distinctive spires are very colorfully decorated and so also make it very different to other temples in Bangkok. Fine art of craftsmanship also makes it worth a visit when in Bangkok.

Even though name suggest as temple of dawn but the most spectacular view can be seen at sunset when spires make an impressive outline and it’s a beautiful scene specially from some distance. Opening hours are 8:30 am to 5:30 pm and entry fee cost 50 baht.

The Grand Palace

The palace is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Bangkok. Wat Phra kaew the temple famous for Emerald Buddha is inside Grand Palace as well. The Grand Palace is huge as it is filled with various buildings, pavilions, halls covered within open garden and courtyard. Its beautiful architecture and creativity attract tourist in big numbers.

Its better you at least spare half a day to go through all the impressive art done inside. Also avoid shorts and skirts and make sure you are modestly dressed. But just in case if you are not well dressed you can be provided with clothes to cover yourself up. Entrance fee cost around 50 baht for foreigners.

The River City

The River city department store is located alongside the Chao Phraya River on the Si Phraya Pier. It got a great picturesque shopping experience with four floors. It also has a rooftop which gives a best panorama view of the Chao Phraya River and the surroundings nearby.

River City is specialized for displaying varieties of high quality antique and collectibles. Other items such as home decoration accessories and Thai crafts are available as well. It tends to have a great atmosphere in evening with cool breeze. It is open every day from 10:00 am to 8:00 pm.

Asiatique

Asiatique the riverfront is a large open area mall situated in Charoen krung Road facing the Chao Phraya River. Being just opened in 2012 after substantial renovation is it now Bangkok’s trendiest landmark. It is a combination of an open air mall and night bazaar.

The mall features a historical theme and is split across four zones with around 1500 shops and stalls with 50 restaurants. All four zones are separated into different categories selling clothes, handicraft, souvenirs, furniture and many other items.

The restaurants are majorly mixture of Thai and European restaurants with few popular franchises around the corner. As its open till late night you will get easy access to alcohol and few nights pub to shake it out in. Food court is also well maintained which provide with clean and diversified meals. It is opened every day from 5:00 pm to midnight.

Royal Barges Museum

Royal Barges Museum is home to royal boats which are on display in this museum. Royal barges were once used as a main mean of transport during Ayutthaya period, but are now only used during grand ceremonies. These barges are very well decorated with a huge piece of mythical creature in front of each long-tail boats.

The boats are very well taken care of with pieces of glass and religious symbol being carved over it. There are around 8 barges and all vary in their size and looks. The museum is open 9:00 am to 5:00 pm every day and it cost 100 baht per person

 

Sky bar Rooftop – Lebua

Widely regarded as best rooftop bar in Bangkok and is very well known for filming Hangover 2. The tower offers one of the great panoramic views, also well situated right on the edge of Chao Phraya River. It is very well recognized as one the best rooftop bar with striking atmosphere and innovative cocktails. The place is not hard to find as it very easily visible, when you will look up you will find a golden dome placed on top of the building. It’s an expensive place to be but it’s worth an experience.

360 Rooftop bar – Millennium Hilton

360 rooftop bar is another popular bar situated along the banks of Chao Phraya in millennium hotel. Its contemporary and cutting edge style provides with great view of the river. In the shape of like enormous saucer can be notice when you look up to find the building and that oval room provide with fantastic 360 panoramic view. Food and drinks are on expensive side but they are worth a try and are a perfect place for couples to have some amazing time from the top.

Wat Kalayanamit

Wat Kalayanamit is a huge temple based on the banks of western Chao Phraya River. Having The Grand Palace and Wat Arun makes it less popular within tourist. Although it’s a worth a visit and carry a rich history of Thailand. The temple is very famous for its 15 meter high Buddha image with crystal chandelier surrounding the statue.

The place is not as crowded as other temples and you can walk around with peace and less hustle to adore the beauty of this cave. It is also home to several monks who reside here.
